We are excited to begin extending our business, our expertise, and ourselves into the digital world. We created this blog with the mission of taking our skin care expertise and sharing it with women (and a few men) looking for more knowledge on skin care. From getting a Brazilian Wax to general Skin Care topics, we want to provide the skin care information everyone wants know, answer the questions that you may find yourself a little embarrassed to ask, and generally share with you who we are and what we do. Because we genuinely love what we do!
To start this journey, we thought we’d tell you a story…
This is the story of Erin and Larissa: The Urban Girls, young Latina entrepreneurs and local San Diegans who opened Urban Skin Care in the popular and eclectic neighborhood of Little Italy back in January 2002.
On September 11, 2001, we met in school at Poway Academy of Hair Design.

We knew the instant we met that we would be friends and eventually business partners. After graduation, we started working right away and got our niche as being the fastest waxers and best Brazilian waxers in San Diego. While learning the ropes, we gained knowledge and experience on operating a business. We realized that our industry lack a real down to earth, personal one on one attention. We wanted to treat our clients how we would like to be treated, as if each one was a VIP and truly cared for. We knew what we needed to do, and now how were we going to do it?
So we hopped in my 1996 Saturn and drove all around Hillcrest and the downtown area looking for a home that we can make our own and convert into an urban day spa. At our last street, India Street we held each other’s hands and said a small prayer. To our surprise, we stopped in our tracks, and saw 2326 India Street available. So excited, we ran up and looked at it. By that afternoon we had an appointment to meet the owners and close the deal. We were so nervous, but knew that this felt right.
So Erin and I scrounged up every cent we had, and my husband and I put up that little 1996 Saturn to come up with what we needed to get our place and lock it in. From that day we have built and built and just recently expanded our Little Italy location by adding another esthetician, a massage therapist, and also a hair stylist.
Opening Urban!
In our seventh year, we expanded our business by adding a location in the quaint and charming village of beautiful Coronado. We fell in love with this town and community. This new location came with new challenges. With one of these challenges coming from each of us focusing on one of our two locations, Erin and I spending less time working together and seeing one another. We really missed our best friend, each other! After two years at our Coronado location, we decided to go back to the basics and focus on our original Little Italy location by closing the doors at Coronado.
As we go back to the basics, we focus on doing what we do best and continue providing the finest skin care and the customer service that inspired us to create Urban Skin Care 10 years ago. We are so proud of what we have accomplished and are so thankful to our family and friends for their positive support and always believing in us.
